Proton saw a 10.8 percent jump in sales in May 2022, with 9,792 units sold (including exports), as shortage in automotive parts eased.
Proton’s market share for May 2022 stood at 19.6 percent, while cumulative figures for year-to-date (YTD) 2022 stood at 17.1 percent.
The A-segment Proton Saga remains the company’s best-seller, with 3,996 units sold in May. However, Proton says the Saga still trails behind the Perodua Bezza.
A new updated Proton Saga was just launched on 12-May. Changes are limited to styling and convenience features (now with keyless entry and engine push-start button), and Proton says it has collected over 12,000 bookings for its latest entry-level sedan.

“The increase in sales for Proton in May is a direct result of the company boosting its production volume to catch up to market demand. As with the rest of the automotive industry, we are continuing to try and secure sufficient parts supply to clear our backlog of orders so while that is happening, PROTON would like to express its gratitude to customers who have supported us in bearing with the long waiting period,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Proton.
