Overview of Birmingham City University

Birmingham City is one of the most famous and popular universities with the UK largest university. And Birmingham City University is approx 25000 national and international students from approx 100 nationalities. From the year 2008 to 2010, we had the highest and greatest growth in UCAS applications of any university in the UK’s Midlands region. The University is located in the City of Birmingham, which is the UK’s second-biggest city; a more affordable and attractive city than London yet located approx 2 hours from the capital.

We are proud of our strong and powerful links and close collaboration with the region, which dates back to 1843. The University invests over 270 million pounds into the regional economy and supports approx thousands of jobs in the city and surrounding area. Facilities and Location

Birmingham City University comprises campuses situated throughout the city. Here is a model of our leading faculties or services:

City North

This is a big, great, bustling campus, three miles north of the city centre. It’s simple to get to – there’s on-site parking, and you are minutes from major bus stands and a train station. It is where many of our courses are based, including those taught by Birmingham City Business School and the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences and Law, as well as English and some Media programs.

Facilities

Teaching students get the feel and experience of a real school in our replica classrooms, complete with school changing rooms and gym. During mooting competitions, Law students hone their advocacy skills and abilities in one of our mock courtrooms in front of a judge, usually a qualified barrister or solicitor.

It is also where you will find plenty of facilities – you can study at the vast Kenrick Library, pick up future advice from our Student Services group, work out at the new 8.5 million pounds Doug Ellis Sports Centre, or head to the Students’ Union or just grab a bite to eat from one of our restaurants and cafes.

Latest Developments

The campus has benefited and profited from a 2.5 million pound investment in a high range of projects to improve and develop its social learning spaces and social amenities. The most important is the creation of the new Kenrick cafe, fully integrated and attractive within the Library and the 24-hour Open Access IT Suite.

Together with the refurbishment of the Edge cafe, Baker, and restaurants, City North now has superb or excellent and varied food and refreshment offering in excellent surroundings.

The Students’ Union has also remodeled it is Bar 42 at an approximate cost of 250,000 pounds, while a chief investment in the Business School provided a new reception in the Galton Building and the upgrade and improvement of teaching and social spaces on the upper floors. To complete the picture, the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences, and Law got a revamp of the corridors and entrances to the Dawson and Attwood buildings with new redecoration, lighting, and flooring.

Gosta Green

Gosta Green, approx five minutes’ walk from the city centre, is home to three of university Birmingham Institute of Art and Design’s five schools:

Gosta Green has extensive workshop provision and studio, reflecting the broad range of study in UK options on offer. Fashion offers fully professional facilities and services for garment design and construction while the textiles area has a combination of digital and traditional facilities or services including print, embroidery, weave and knit workshops.

All workshops are supported and cared by university team of skilled or abilities technicians. Textiles and Fashion workshop areas are equipped and suitable for both traditional techniques and state-of-the-art computerized looms and printers. All students get to benefit from the excellent design studio and workshop facilities or services to prepare them for practice at the top level. Students have access to Vicon 3D, an external tracking motion capture Gypsy, and facility, an exo-skeleton-based motion capture system, extending the possibilities and options for the production of films and 3D animation. There’s also a comprehensive range of machinery and tools in the wood and metal workshops.

City Centre Campus at Millennium Point

University City Centre Campus is based at Millennium Point, a landmark building just to the east of the city centre that is home to programs from our Faculty or services of Engineering, Technology and the Environment as well as Birmingham School of Acting in the UK. And there are more exciting growths in the pipeline – construction is currently underway on a new home for Birmingham Institute of Design and Art next door.
